Goodbye Lenin

Goodbye Lenin is my favorite German movie. I do not understand how a movie can depict such a topic as the dissolving of communism in a country in such a wonderful and lighthearted way.

In the movie, a socialist-fascist German woman wakes up from a long coma to a no longer socialist Germany. The doctors warn the children that their mother has to be told that socialism has been dissolved in Germany. Afterward, however, the children try to build a socialist world for their mother.

This film leaves one thinking deeply about history and its perceived. For example, why did people flood to the West when the Berlin wall collapsed? Was a can of pickles that important? What would happen if Lothar Matheus didn’t make that penalty a goal?

Goodbye Lenin is a must-watch for everyone.
