Snowtime

This is one of the benefits of winter. Even though further snow and cold temperatures are expected in the coming days, films like this one serve to remind us that winter – even when it seems like it will last forever – can be breathtakingly beautiful.

Using microscopic footage of snowflakes, Vyacheslav Ivanov of St. Petersburg, Russia, created this melancholy time-lapse film, which is matched to the song “Cylinder Six” by Chris Zabriskie. While digging your car out of millions of them, it can be challenging to recall how breathtakingly beautiful snowflakes are when you’re not up close and personal with them. On the other hand, this film does an excellent job of reminding us of precisely that.
