Thomas Berry (1914-2009) was a historian who studied world religions and expressed his opinions on awakening sensitivity to environmental crises very early. His most famous research is his “new story” about the universe. The “new story” includes evolutionary science and traditional culture to create a prosperous future.
This course studies Berry’s life and is connected to the project of cosmic journey. We extracted his books, articles and videos of previous lectures, all to study Berry’s ideas, including “new stories”, “great missions”, and the emerging ecological era. This course deeply studied Berry’s insights on the universe, Position human beings in the endless dynamic universe and participate in the creative work of our time. We will focus on studying Berry’s renewal and reshaping of the ecology, economy, education, soul, and artistic age.
Principle of the course:
Thomas Berry is a native creative and comprehensive thinker who pays special attention to the nature of our global environmental crisis. His response to the ecological crisis reflects his wisdom. This response is in the context of the theory of evolution and should bring humans and science together. In addition, he explained that our need for participation in world religions can also be used to solve environmental problems.
He started by studying cosmology and religious traditions and combining the two. Perceiving the importance of stories as a functional cosmology, he began to explore the wide-ranging influence of these stories and spread them through tradition. To illustrate with examples, they are rituals, morals and the way of survival.
