P2PU incorporates some of the qualities of MOOCs. Still, it is mainly focused on people sharing their knowledge on a learning topic or on the knowledge that other users have shared in a wiki-like environment. In contrast to traditional massive open online courses, anyone can develop and participate in a course. P2PU is divided into schools, including schools of social innovation, web craft, open education, and a school of education.
In addition to a toolkit to prepare and support facilitators, the P2PU website provides a discussion forum where facilitators can share strategies and data gathering tools. The site also explains a process for locating a learning circle or bringing people together to form a learning circle centered on one of the online courses that are accessible. All learning circle materials and community tools are available for free and under an open license. P2PU also provides training courses and assistance with blended learning.
