“Malo has committed to helping his best friend Poto make pickles on this lovely day. All bets are off, though, when Malo learns that there is a new merry-go-round in the forest. Ignoring a pig in need of assistance, snapping at a cuckoo, and smooshing a dung beetle’s feces, he speeds through the woodland after leaving Poto behind. When Malo eventually locates the merry-go-round, he understands that going around alone would not be enjoyable. Fortunately for Malo, his companion Poto not only pardons him but also assists him in making amends with the other woodland creatures. This charmingly eccentric story emphasizes the value of expressing “I’m sorry,” forgiving others, and friendship while taking place in a fantastical forest of enormous mushrooms and towering trees.”
